KIMT NEWS 3 – The family of a missing teen later found murdered are working to create a law that would help make sure what happened to her daughter doesn’t happen to others.
On Sunday volunteer advocates will be at Hy-Vee East in Mason City at ten to rally support for a new law they want passed.
It’s called Kathlynn’s Hope Law, and would protect Iowa children from violent predators.
The law would increase penalties, parole provisions and oversight for those convicted of violently attacking children.
The Shepard family is teaming up with Chelsea’s Light; an organization that enacted a similar law in California after a 17-year-old girl was raped and murdered by a convicted felon who was out on parole for a similar previous crime.
Iowa residents can sign the petition at one of the more than 60 sites throughout the state this Saturday and Sunday.
