DES MOINES, IA – The top Democrat in the Iowa House is stepping down from his post, to take a new job. Iowa State Representative Kevin McCarthy will be working in the State Attorney General’s office.
McCarthy says his new duties include directing a new unit that will do work on mental illness issues and oversee an elder fraud unit.
He’ll also lead an initiative to help military service members, veterans and families, especially when it comes to consumer protection.
McCarthy said his final day in office would be August 15th.
He’s represented a Des Moines district for 11 years, including seven years as either the majority or minority leader.
A new minority leader will be voted in on August 10th in Des Moines.
