TIFFIN, Iowa (AP) — A 20-year-old eastern Iowa man is expected to plead guilty next month to charges stemming from a fatal car accident near Tiffin in October 2011.
Court records say Zachary Swenka, of North Liberty, is scheduled for a plea hearing on Sept. 6 in Johnson County District Court. He’s been charged with vehicular homicide and involuntary manslaughter.
Swenka’s accused of driving more than 100 mph on U.S. Highway 6 on Oct. 17, 2011, before losing control of his vehicle and colliding with a van. The Iowa State Patrol says Mackenzie Lown, of Amana, was killed in the crash. The patrol says two people in the van and five other teens in Swenka’s car were injured, including Swenka.
