IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Two historic log cabins in Iowa City have been listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The cabins, which were listed on the national register on June 25, are located in City Park.
One cabin was built in 1889 by the Old Settlers’ Association and moved a couple times before finding a permanent home at the park.
The other was built in 1913 and donated by Old Settlers members. It was designed as a replica of an early trading post.
The Old Settlers’ Association was formally established in 1866.
The cabins have seen little use for 25 years and the Parks and Recreation Foundation has begun fundraising to pay for a restoration, estimated to cost $100,000.
