DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Des Moines police have arrested a former youth pastor in connection with abuse allegations by two girls.
Police on Tuesday charged 27-year-old Ryan McKelvey with two counts of sexual exploitation by clergy and two counts of 3rd degree sexual abuse.
Officers began investigating the matter after being contacted Monday by a girl and her parents about an alleged sexual assault by McKelvey, who was a former youth pastor at Heritage Assembly Church in Des Moines.
The investigation led to a possible second victim, who also told police about other incidents.
Detectives spoke with McKelvey at his home and then brought him to the police station, where he was arrested.
An attorney for McKelvey couldn’t be reached for comment.
