Iowan posts reward on sign outside home

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A spray-painted sign in the front yard of a rural Polk County home shows the resident is serious about catching whoever broke into her home.

It says: “$2,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of those who broke into this home on 8-6-13.”

Gretchen Stevenson told Des Moines television station KCCI (http://bit.ly/11Or4E7) that the break-in occurred Tuesday after she’d gone shopping around 10:30 a.m. She returned about 3:30 p.m. and found someone had broken through an outside door into her basement and taken about $2,000 worth of her property from the house, including jewelry and coins.

Stevenson says the sign may generate a tip or two and also will warn the crook or crooks against another illegal foray into her home.
