Man charged with murder now in north Iowa jail

WORTH COUNTY, IA – The man accused of 1st degree murder for the death of 30-year-old Justina Smith of Northwood, is now in the Worth County jail.  39-year-old Tyrone Washington is charged with stabbing Smith to death on Monday in a Northwood park.  Police say he left the scene in the victim’s car, and led police on a high speed  chase in eastern Iowa.  Washington ended up in a cornfield near Davenport, and was arrested for eluding and speeding charges in Scott County.  Those charges were dropped, so he could be transferred to Worth County to face the murder charges.
