Man gets life in killing of adult theater manager

OTTUMWA, Iowa (AP) — A judge sentenced a 26-year-old man to life in prison for robbing and killing the manager of an adult theater in Ottumwa.

The Ottumwa Courier reports (http://bit.ly/1chxuCE ) Judge Lucy Gamon on Thursday sentenced Bruce Darnell Pollard Jr. to life in prison without parole. He was convicted July 23 of first-degree murder in the March 2012 death of Cinema X Theater manager Kenneth McDaniel.

Pollard also was given a consecutive sentence of 25 years for first-degree robbery.

At the hearing, Gamon called Pollard’s crimes “brutal” and “horrific.”

Pollard acknowledged killing the 70-year-old McDaniel by hitting him in the head with a pry bar and choking him. He then stole cash and pornographic material.
