Gifts will fund Wartburg athletic facility work

WAVERLY, Iowa (AP) — Two gifts totaling $1.1 million will pay for improvements at Wartburg College’s athletic facilities.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports ( ) the family of Richard and Marge Zimmerman donated $500,000 to the Waverly college. The donation will pay for a new video scoreboard, enhancements to live streaming of athletic events and will help fund new field turf.

The college will name the football field in honor of the Zimmermans. Richard Zimmerman is a 1951 graduate of Wartburg.

A $600,000 gift from the estate of Lotus Knief will contribute to upgrades of the baseball and softball fields. Knief was a 1952 graduate of the college.
