DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Des Moines police are investigating the theft of gold eyelid implants from a hospital.

KCCI-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1ck95fD ) an employee at Mercy Medical Center reported the theft Thursday of 10 boxes of implants.

They have a reported value of $2,800.

The implants can help patients with eyelid control problems to blink and close their eyes.

Gold is used for the implants because it causes less irritation to the eye.
