MASON CITY, IA – The Cerro Gordo County Clerk of Court office is going green.

The clerk’s office is home to an incredible amount of files documenting cases that have happened over the years.

Now, all of these documents will become electronic and will be held on the new Electronic Document Management System (EDMS).

This new program will help decrease paper consumption at the court house and it will make it easier to access court documents.

Scott Hand, the District Court Administrator said, “it’ll cut down on our paper drastically.”

This program has been implemented in 13 other counties in the district and so far, it has been a resourceful tool for everyone.

“It’s a great tool for increasing the access for court files because anybody that needs access can access it, you don’t have to worry about files that are checked out or files that are maybe misplaced,” Hand said.

This new system will allow documents to be easily accessible for smaller counties that don’t have a resident judge.

“District 2 was originally involved in the pilot of this project in Story County actually about 2 years ago and so we were involved early on and we were able to help with the development of this system,” Hand said.

Because they were involved in the development in the program, Hand said that that gave them the ability to cater it to their own needs and make it a useful tool for their offices.
