India, Pakistan trade more accusations of firings

SRINAGAR, India (AP) — India and Pakistan have again accused each other of firing across the rivals’ disputed Kashmir border, the latest in a series of allegations of cross-border attacks made by both sides.

An Indian army commander said Tuesday that Pakistani troops fired intermittently through the night on the Mendhar sector of the border, 180 kilometers (115 miles) southwest of Srinagar, the main city in India’s portion of Kashmir.

Meanwhile, a Pakistani military official said Indian troops fired late Monday at Pakistani military posts.

Both officials spoke on customary condition of anonymity.

Pakistan had earlier accused Indian troops of shelling its territory along the border on Monday and killing a civilian.

Kashmir is divided between India and Pakistan. The countries have fought two wars over control of the region.
