Iowa airport OKs wrongful termination settlement

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The Des Moines Airport Authority board has approved a $275,000 wrongful termination settlement involving a former employee.

The Des Moines Register reports (http://dmreg.co/18smDzY ) the settlement was approved Tuesday and involves Gary Hagan, a former marketing coordinator who was fired for a security breach in 2011.

Hagan was accused of escorting a friend through a secure area of the airport to help him get a boarding pass. The Transportation Security Administration cited security concerns and removed all passengers from the plane and rescreened them.

The newspaper reports a Polk County District Court judge ruled earlier this year that the airport and the Des Moines Civil Service Commission failed to prove that Hagan’s intention was to let his friend travel without a boarding pass or without going through security.
