Iowa group stranded in Kenya is back home

MAQUOKETA, Iowa (AP) — Some eastern Iowa high school students have returned home after being stranded in Kenya after an airport fire.

The Quad-City Times says (http://bit.ly/16eUleF ) the 26 students and chaperones from Maquoketa were reunited with friends and family on Sunday evening.

The group, which had been on a weeklong mission trip, was scheduled to leave Africa on Wednesday. But a fire at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi halted international flights. The volunteer organization in Africa that worked with the group made accommodations for them to stay an extra few days.
