Jury finds Iowa teen not guilty in fatal shooting

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A jury has found a Des Moines teenager not guilty of first-degree murder in connection with an apartment shooting.

The Des Moines Register reports (http://dmreg.co/1cL9KWE ) a Polk County jury reached the verdict Tuesday in the case of 16-year-old Haley Bass. They deliberated for less than three hours.

Bass was accused of shooting 19-year-old Anthony Denzell Moss, of Chicago. He was found dead in a Des Moines apartment in April.

Prosecutors argued that Bass killed Moss after smoking marijuana with him and two other witnesses. They noted Bass’ odd behavior, including canceling her cellphone service after investigators tried to contact her about the shooting.

Bass’ attorney said prosecutors never offered a motive. He also said one of the witnesses testified that Bass wasn’t the shooter.
