DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Senior citizens in Polk County are being offered free cellphones as part of an emergency response program.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office says the donated cellphones may be used for incidents that require immediate emergency response, including car accidents, medical emergencies and fires.
The cellphones, which are reconditioned to only call 911, are available to citizens who are 55 years old or older.
Officials are still accepting donated cellphones from the public. The devices must be in good working condition and they must include battery chargers.
