MASON CITY, IA –¬†Mason City families are stopping by the Salvation Army for a helping hand this school season.

The Mason City salvation army is helping qualifying families check off items on their school supply list.

Organizers say the yearly event continues to grow each year with more and more families needing help.

One parent says it’s programs like these that can really bring a community together.

“These are real good people here, they always make sure you get what you need and if you can come in for something, doesn’t matter if it’s backpacks, toys or diapers for your kids, they usually have something to help you out,” said Nina Read of Mason City.

For one volunteer organizer, she says it’s truly up to the community to try to help keep these types of programs going in the future.

“We are a community and we all need to pull together and help each other out. The children are products of their environment and what’s around us and that includes all of us. I think we’re all responsible and it’s very beneficial to the kids and the families,” said Terri Corsello, Giving Your Best Volunteer.

The school supply drive was sponsored by KIMT News 3 and our Giving Your Best partners, First Citizens National Bank and Diamond Jo Casino.
