DYERSVILLE, Iowa (AP) — The group working to build a 24-field youth baseball and softball complex near the “Field of Dreams” movie site is scaling back initial construction plans.
The Dubuque Telegraph Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1cFulg2) dormitories for coaches and players have been removed from the first construction phase. The number of fields in the initial phase also has been reduced from 12 to six.
Denise Stillman is president and chief executive officer of Field of Dreams ownership group Go the Distance Baseball.
She says the facility will open in time for the 2014 season, and the 25th anniversary of the movie starring Kevin Costner as an Iowa farmer who carves a baseball diamond out of a cornfield.
Stillman says the group limited its plans to ensure the attraction doesn’t “overburden the hotel accommodation system.”
