AUSTIN, MN — The numbers are really adding up when it comes to local crime.
A new report shows Mower County ranks 14th among all counties in the state for total arrests made.
That’s according to a report from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
More than 2,000 arrests were made in the county in 2012.
And more than 1,700 people were apprehended by the Austin Police Department alone.
Law enforcement leaders tell us this isn’t something new.
“It’s not based on either a change in demographics or some of our newer folks we’ve had come to town,” Capt. Dave McKichan said. “We’ve always seen these kinds of numbers even 15 to 18 years ago.”
By comparison: Freeborn County had more than 1,200 total arrests and more than 900 were made by the Albert Lea Police Department.
