Grimes woman gets prison time for false appraisals

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A Grimes woman has been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for inflating the value of homes she appraised to help herself and others get mortgage loans.

Bobbi Jo Wojewoda, who is 46, stands convicted of conspiracy to commit bank fraud.

She has admitted to using her position as an apprentice appraiser to prepare documents with inflated values. She also failed to disclose conflicts of interest to mortgage lenders when she appraised her own home and homes for which she was the real estate agent.

Her 45-year-old husband, Wade Wojewoda earlier pleaded guilty to receipt of proceeds obtained under false pretenses, related to the purchase of the their home in 2003.

He is serving three years of probation.
