ROCHESTER, MN — After only five months of being open, a program that helps start-up companies get off the ground is at full capacity.

The Mayo Clinic Business Accelerator also gives venture capitalists a place to operate until they upgrade to their own facility. The goal is to spur business growth in Rochester.

It also is meant to encourage established businesses to come to town.

“We’re actually bringing a couple of companies through that have been through accelerators to come and work here in Rochester with Mayo. The hope would be that eventually some of these companies like what they see here in town and decide to stay here,” said James Rogers, Chair of Mayo Clinic Ventures.

Boston Scientific is one of the latest of 16 tenants to occupy the offices downtown.

The accelerator also launched a website and is working on special events.

“We’re working on bringing CoderDojo to Rochester. We’re working on all different kinds of educational events, that really helps explain to people how the process works and gets them excited and gets them to want to participate,” Rogers said.

One vacancy the accelerator still has is a coordinator. They are hoping to fill that position soon.
