Minn. nursing home patient dies after Tasering

ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. (AP) — Authorities say a 76-year-old man died two weeks after police subdued him with a Taser at a St. Louis Park nursing home.

Zheng Diao was wielding a knife and scissors when officers were called to Park Health and Rehab July 14.

Police gestured for Diao, who didn’t speak English, to drop the weapons when he moved the knife toward his throat.

The Star Tribune (http://bit.ly/184iArw) reports when the officers used the Taser to try to prevent Diao from harming himself, he fell and hurt his face.

The Hennepin County medical examiner’s office says Diao died July 29 at HCMC from pneumonia as he was being treated for delirium and injuries from the fall.

Administrator Kristie Johnsrud says nursing home staff responded quickly and appropriately by immediately contacting authorities for help.
