MASON CITY, Iowa – It’s not easy to pay for college, and more students are getting some help from the government.
More undergrads are using federal aid.
While the number of people taking advantage of financial aid has been rising over the years, now a majority of students are using the aid.
Experts we spoke with tell us, many students are actually paying for their education themselves.
“Unfortunately with changes in the economy, parents aren’t able to put away money like they used to in the past to help pay for education and so we’re really fortunate that our country believes in education and these programs are available for students,” says Mary Bloomingdale, the Financial Aid Director at NIACC.
She also tells us, NIACC about 80% of students take advantage of some sort of financial aid.
