Special session slated for Sept. 9

KIMT NEWS 3 — State leaders in Minnesota will have one less day off before the next session starts.

A special session has been set for September 9 at 10 a.m.

Funding for the areas hit by June’s storms is the one and only focus at the capitol. They will be discussing what the money will go toward, such as washed out roads and other damaged infrastructure.

“The disaster relief is the state match, about $4.5 million, in order to access those federal funds from the federal disaster relief from FEMA and that’s about $18 million in total for the total disaster relief,” said State Sen. Carla Nelson, R-Rochester.

Public meetings will also be taking place prior to September’s session.

“There are going to be legislative public meetings, working groups, prior to the special session on September 9 and anyone who is at all interested, anyone from the public, should attend those meetings,” Nelson said.

She reminds us that this special session is for public infrastructure only.
