Council approves 1st permit for Verso demolition

SARTELL, Minn. (AP) — The demolition of the former Verso Paper mill, partially destroyed by an explosion and fire, is expected to get under way soon in Sartell.

The Sartell City Council has issued an interim use permit to demolish the mill, which is now owned by AIM Development.

The mill’s former owner decided to cease operations and sold the property after the explosion and fire last year.

AIM Development will demolish more than 530,000 square feet of buildings. The only buildings that will remain are the office building, hydroelectric operations and a warehouse.

The St. Cloud Times (http://on.sctimes.com/15gVGje ) reports the company plans to recycle 95 percent of the materials.
