Iowan who killed girlfriend pleads guilty to DUI

KANAWHA, Iowa (AP) — A Kanawha man has pleaded guilty to drunken driving nearly a year after the car he was driving hit and killed his girlfriend.

The Mason City Globe Gazette reports ( ) that sentencing for 29-year-old Jonathan Roelofsen is set for Sept. 13 in Wright County District Court.

County Attorney Eric Simonson charged Roelofsen in April with second-offense operating while under the influence.

Investigators say 26-year-old Sabrina Reibsamen was walking on a rural road south of Kanawha on Aug. 27, 2012, when Roelofsen hit her.

In March, Simonson declined to charge Roelofsen with vehicular homicide or other traffic death charge, citing an Iowa State Patrol investigation that showed alcohol did not cause the accident.
