College student wants job of Iowa town mayor

WAVERLY, Iowa (AP) — A college student plans to run for mayor of the small eastern Iowa town where he attends school.

Jacob Martin is busy collecting the necessary signatures for his candidacy after the filing window to submit for the mayor of Waverly opened Monday.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports (http://bit.ly/1djKDLS ) the 20-year-old junior at Wartburg College is confident he can balance mayoral duties and college work, since the position is made to work around a full-time job.

Martin says he’s not ready to announce a specific campaign platform, but he says he wants to make the town better.

A former councilman, Duane Liddle, also plans to run for mayor. The town’s mayor recently announced he would not seek another term.
