CLEAR LAKE, IA – A heat wave has taken over the Midwest and it’s not just affecting people.
Animals also battle through the hot days as well
Local veterinarian, James Loux, tells us that pet owners should just use common sense when it comes to their animals spending time outside.
Loux recommends that owners keep their pets inside but if they need some exercise, keeping outdoor activity limited is smart so that they don’t overheat.
“It’s very important if they are outside that they have plenty of fresh water, cool water preferably so they don’t have to drink hot water and have shade outside and be in an area where they have a good breeze,” Loux said.
Never leave your animals in a parked car, not even for a minute, even if the air conditioner on because temperatures can climb in a matter of minutes.
