MASON CITY, Iowa – The Blue Zones Mason City is adding another place to their list and it’s a local favorite that they say they’re proud to be a part of.
The Hungry Mind restaurant is now being designated for featuring healthy eating options as well as portion sizes.
Also, recognized was Northwoods State Bank.
Those with Blue Zones say it’s a great accomplishment to have a local favorite take part and commit themselves to bringing healthy options to the community.
“The Blue Zones project is not about changing the local favorite restaurants menu items, it’s about highlighting the healthy and fresh items,” said Ellen Kehr, Blue Zones Mason City Organizer.
Ellen says it’s all about giving options to residents and making it more convenient to find healthy eating options.
“Highlighting them so the customers that care in here, if that is their choice, that they can quickly look and see that they could order the salmon burger or the children’s menu and such and such. That’s what we’re looking for. The restaurant initiative is really important,” said Kehr.
Mason City will celebrate their Blue Zone success so far and that’s scheduled to take place September 3, at City Hall.
