WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — Thousands of customers lost power in Waterloo, including much of the city’s downtown.
The Waterloo-Courier reports (http://bit.ly/1a6GKsl ) the power failure occurred before 2 p.m. Friday, leaving more than 7,000 customers without power. The outage forced some downtown buildings to rely on backup generators and knocked out many traffic lights.
Electricity was restored to most customers within an hour.
MidAmerican Energy spokeswoman Abby Bottenfield blamed the problem on a faulty cable.
The utility has nearly 40,000 electricity customers in the Waterloo area.
