KIMT News 3 – The decision to act on the crisis in Syria is now in the hands of the House and Senate, and legislators from our area are sharing their thoughts on the difficult decision.

In a press conference this weekend, President Barack Obama issued a statement saying armed forces are prepared to take action in Syria if need be.

In this case, rather than make the decision himself, he’s enlisting the help of the house and the senate to vote on the matter.

A decision that some say will be difficult to make.

“It’s a huge decision and I can’t imagine the President, whose been criticized everywhere he turns. Every decision he’s made, he’s come under huge criticism. Asking the Congress to step up and do their job is a good thing,” said Iowa Representative, Sharon Steckman.

Members of Congress and the House received classified briefings on the latest on Syria and Bashar Assad’s regime.

The information is used to help legislators make an informed vote in the coming weeks.

“I can’t imagine how hard of a decision that will be because we’re put in the War on Iraq, spent billions of dollars, loss of lives and I’m not sure anybody wants to go that route again,” said Steckman.
