KANAWHA, Iowa – In honor of Labor Day on Monday several communities held events like parades to celebrate not going into work.
In Kanawha, the community gathered for a parade down Main Street featuring classic cars, the fire department, football team, and Kanawha high school cheerleaders.
Grand Marshal, Eva Johnson attended the parade like she does every other year, with her family by her side.
Johnson said that this particular event in Kanawha is a family tradition for many in the area.
“It’s just been an annual celebration that we’ve had for 50 or 60 years and it’s always a nice parade, always a big crowd,” Johnson said.
This was Johnson’s first year of being Grand Marshal of the parade and she said it was a great experience and a unique way of enjoying the parade.
