Waterloo council to discuss tougher pit bull rule

WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — Waterloo animal control staffers are working on a new, tougher ordinance to control pit bulls following attacks on two people last week.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports (http://bit.ly/18t1DHG) that Waterloo Mayor Buck Clark said the attacks on a 65-year-old woman and 13-year-old boy are “something we need to react to.”

City Council members are scheduled to discuss the proposal during a work session on Tuesday. Any ordinance change would require consideration during a regular council meeting.

Vivien Brookman is recovering from about 200 dog bites she received Tuesday after 13-year-old William McNealy suffered bites and scratches from an attack by the same two pit bulls and a Boston terrier mix.

One of the pit bulls was killed by police. The two other dogs were picked up by Waterloo Animal Control.
