Charges dismissed in alleged Sioux City robbery

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) — Prosecutors say they have dismissed charges against two Sioux City residents accused of robbing and torturing a man because they want to build their case.

The motion filed Tuesday dismisses first-degree robbery and willful injury charges against 33-year-old Melissa Lowe and 32-year-old Brandon Keleher.

The Sioux City Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1fAbLSF ) Woodbury County Attorney Patrick Jennings said in the filing that prosecutors needed more time to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt. He said charges can be refiled at a later time.

The victim says he met Lowe and Keleher through mutual friends. The couple is accused of attacking the man in late August with a knife and heated potato masher. The man suffered burns and a broken nose.

Online court records don’t list the names of their attorneys.
