AUSTIN, Minn. — The search to find a full-time fire chief in Austin is moving forward.

The city’s Fire Service Commission has received seven applications for the job.

That includes one from within the Austin Fire Department.

The job opened up when former Chief Mickey Healey took a job in Texas.

The application deadline has passed, and now the hiring commission hopes they’ve found their next chief among the seven who applied.

“They’ll do testing and an interview process,” Austin Mayor Tom Stiehm said. “Maybe just an interview process. But, that will probably be within the next month. At that point, they’ll start making determinations on who they want.”

Stiehm says there is not a set deadline to have fire chief in place.

However, he adds someone could be hired in the next few months.
