MASON CITY, Iowa – It’s a well-known program at North Iowa Area Community College that has helped get many small businesses off the ground.

Now more than ever people are choosing to become their own boss and launching businesses in north Iowa.

But doing so can be a challenge, that’s where NIACC’s John Papajohn Entrepreneurial Center steps in to help.

“When you leave the Launch and Grow, you’ll have structured assistance in developing a business plan that is specific to your particular needs,” explains Daniel Winegarden, with the Papajohn Center.

The Launch and Grow Your Business classes have been very successful in helping local entrepreneurs get started.

And considering a job can be a hard thing to land these days, the classes are busier than ever.

“There has been an increase in demand with regard to people wanting to have control over their own destiny, and not necessarily counting on somebody else creating the job for them.”

“With layoffs with cutbacks and the uncertainty of the workforce today this is a well-timed type of option that people can really consider,” says Tim Coffey with the Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber says entrepreneurship is something they plan to focus on throughout the year.

That’s why they’re partnering with the Pappajohn Center to help bring more small businesses to Main Street.

“To have a flow of business and a continuity of a new business starting up really shows the vitality of a local economy.”

Enrollment in the class is limited and is filling fast.

Start up, existing business owners and division leaders are welcome to join the class.

Launch and Grow Your Businesses classes run for ten weeks starting on September 12th.
