Court upholds man’s conviction in driving death

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) — The Iowa Court of Appeals has upheld the conviction of a Reinbeck man in connection with the 2010 death of a 26-year-old woman in Cedar Falls.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports ( ) the court ruled Thursday there was enough evidence to convict 28-year-old Austin David Hansen.

Hansen argued there wasn’t enough evidence showing his intoxication caused the crash that killed Kaley Kennison, of Cedar Falls.

Hansen was driving Kennison home when his vehicle hit a wall. A sample taken more than two hours after the crash showed his blood alcohol level exceeded the legal driving limit.

Hansen claimed Kennison slipped off the seat, pinning his foot to the accelerator.

A judge sentenced Hansen to 25 years on the homicide by vehicle charge. He’s serving another sentence on unrelated drug charges.
