Minn. congressman hears from constituents on Syria

ST. PETER, Minn. (AP) — Constituents are telling Minnesota Congressman Tim Walz to vote no on authorizing a U.S. attack on Syria.

Walz met with more than 100 constituents one-on-one at the St. Peter Food Co-op Friday.

Roger Parras of St. Peter took time off from work to tell Walz he doesn’t want Congress to approve an attack on Syria. Parras says the U.S. should look at alternatives, such as sanctions.

President Barack Obama has sought congressional authorization for limited strikes against Syria, contending that the alleged use of chemical weapons by Syrian President Bashar Assad’s government on its own people must not stand.

Walz is a Democrat who represents southern Minnesota. He tells Minnesota Public Radio News (http://bit.ly/17G7uZ2 ) he has not decided yet how he’ll vote on the resolution.
