Prosecution rests case against Mason City man

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The prosecution has rested its case in the Cerro Gordo County trial of a 30-year-old Mason City man charged in connection with his 18-month-old son’s death.

The Mason City Globe Gazette reports ( ) prosecutors finished their case Monday in the trial of Kenneth L. Adams. He’s charged with child endangerment resulting in death in the Oct. 27, 2012, death of his son, Owen.

Prosecutors allege the boy head-butted his father, prompting Adams to get angry and hold the child face-down on a pillow.

Owen was taken to a Mason City hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Defense lawyers will begin their case Tuesday morning.

Adams was charged in December. He’s being held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail under a $50,000 bond.
