Cut cable means loss of Internet in S. Iowa cities

OTTUMWA, Iowa (AP) — Mediacom customers in several southern Iowa cities lost high-speed Internet service because of problems with a cut cable.

The Ottumwa Courier reports (http://bit.ly/17UJxiU ) customers lost their Internet service Sunday night in Albia, Bloomfield, Centerville, Fairfield, Oskaloosa and Ottumwa.

Mediacom spokeswoman Phyllis Peters says the problem was traced to a third-party fiber company that provides service to Mediacom and other companies.

Fixing the problem took time because crews had to find the broken line in a wooded area.

Most customers had their service restored by Monday afternoon.
