Principal donation boosts Big Brothers Big Sisters

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Iowa has received a $15,000 grant from Principal Financial Group to improve a school-based mentor program for children.

The program serves 33 schools in the Des Moines area matching more than 300 children with mentors who meet them in school on a weekly basis.

Director of the school-based program Lisa Green says in announcing the grant Tuesday that the funding will help pay for educational activities, physical activities and relationship building between students and their mentors.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Iowa connects children facing adversity with professionally supported one-to-one relationships designed to improve their lives.
