CLEAR LAKE, Iowa –  “This is a day we can never forget, it all that really needs to be said, its something that’s so important to everybody in the united states and everyone here. We just can’t, we can never forget what happened 12 years ago today,” said Assistant Chief Michael Keefe from the Clear Lake Fire Department.

Keefe and his fellow co-workers, along with the North Iowa Marine Corps League and more than a dozen motorcycle riders gathered the Clear Lake Fire Station to honor those on 9/11.

But for everyone, remembering this day is different.

“Its just, its pretty important to me because I was one of the guys that went out and got the steel in New York and just to remember that and remember that all firefighters everywhere and all the people who were involved that day. You just can’t forget them, they were very important people and we just need to remember that every time,” said Keefe.

A moment of silent was made, along with the flag brought to half staff.

“I think 9/11 deserves, the incident that happened on 9/11 deserves to have people never forget that day and because we happen to have a piece of steel from the towers out here to remember those people from now on,” said Keefe.

After tonight’s memorial, many of those in the crowd headed just a few blocks away to the Other Place in ClearLake.

The restaurant and bar donated 11% of their earnings today to those who serve the local community, including first responders and police in both ClearLake and Ventura.

It was the first year OP owners did this, and they say it’s been a successful day so far, with lots of people stopping in.
