Fiery crash kills truck driver in Twin Cities

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. (AP) — A truck driver from south-central Minnesota is dead after a fiery crash in a western Minneapolis suburb.

Authorities say the side dump truck collided with a minivan at a busy Golden Valley intersection Friday. The truck then toppled a signal light post at one of the corners before being engulfed in flames.

State Patrol Lt. Eric Roeske tells the Star Tribune (http://bit.ly/18bhERP ) police officers and bystanders tried to rescue the driver, but the driver was trapped because the door was jammed.

The patrol says the truck driver was a 64-year-old man from Le Sueur. His name was not immediately released.

Roeske says the van was turning left against a red turn arrow. The truck swerved but could not avoid the van.

The van driver was in serious but stable condition.
