Iowa man sentenced to 25 years in shooting

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — An eastern Iowa man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for wounding a friend in a shooting last November.

KCRG reports (http://bit.ly/17X0xaa ) 28-year-old James Breen of Cedar Rapids was sentenced Friday in connection with the shooting of 28-year-old Cory Forbes.

Prosecutors say Breen shot Forbes three times after Forbes tried to stop Breen from threatening another man with his gun. The shooting took place outside a bar.

Forbes was wounded in the abdomen and hip and suffered nerve damage.

Prosecutors say Breen’s blood alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit on the night of the shooting.

Breen could be ordered later to help pay Forbes’ $98,000 in medical expenses as restitution.
