Truck driver who died in fiery Minn. crash is IDed

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. (AP) — A truck driver who died after a fiery crash in a western Minneapolis suburb has been identified as a 64-year-old LeSeuer man.

The Hennepin County medical examiner’s office says Joseph Walter Johnson died from smoke inhalation and burns. His death Friday was classified as an accident.

Authorities say Johnson’s dump truck collided with a minivan at a busy Golden Valley intersection. The truck then toppled a signal light post and burst into flames.

State Patrol Lt. Eric Roeske (ROS’-kee) says police officers and bystanders were unable to rescue Johnson because the door was jammed.

Roeske says the van was turning left against a red turn arrow. Johnson swerved but couldn’t avoid the van.

The van driver was in serious but stable condition.
