Davenport police charge man with murder

DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — Davenport police have charged a man with murder in a case that initially appeared to be a natural death.

The Quad-City Times reports (http://bit.ly/1gq72U5 ) 37-year-old Stephen Allan Boeding, of Davenport, was charged with murder Friday. He was already in jail when charged.

The case dates to June 6, when 48-year-old Kevin E. O’Connell was found dead in his Davenport apartment.

Police were called to check on O’Connell, and officers found his body “in an advanced stage of decomposition.”

Nothing seemed suspicious, but two months later an anonymous source told Detective Bill Thomas that O’Connell and Boeding had been drinking and O’Connell was choked to death.

After more police work, O’Connell’s family agreed to disinter his body. An autopsy showed he was strangled.

Court records didn’t list an attorney for Boeding.
