Former Keokuk Mayor David Gudgel dies at 63

KEOKUK, Iowa (AP) — David Gudgel, the former mayor of Keokuk in southeastern Iowa, has died. He was 63.

DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Centers confirmed that Gudgel died Saturday at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

The Daily Gate City newspaper reports ( ) Gudgel served four terms as mayor between 2001 and 2009. His work in office included implementing a 12-year street improvement plan, building a new aquatics center and constructing a new performance pavilion at a local park.

Current Mayor Tom Marion says Gudgel’s public service will serve as a legacy to future generations.

Visitation will be held Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church. Funeral services are scheduled Friday at the same location.
