CLARION, Iowa (AP) — A Kanawha man who pleaded guilty last month to drunken driving nearly a year after the car he was driving hit and killed his girlfriend has now been sentenced to two years in prison.
The Mason City Globe Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1dlkIjz) that 29-year-old Jonathan Roelofsen was sentenced Friday in Wright County District Court in Clarion. He was also ordered to pay a $1,875 fine.
Investigators say 26-year-old Sabrina Reibsamen was walking on a rural road south of Kanawha on Aug. 27, 2012, when Roelofsen hit her.
Prosecutors declined to charge Roelofsen with vehicular homicide or other traffic death charge, citing an Iowa State Patrol investigation that showed alcohol did not cause the accident. But Roelofsen was charged with operating while under the influence, second offense.
