Minn. man charged in mother’s stabbing death

ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) — A judge has set bail at $3 million for a St. Cloud man accused of fatally stabbing his 72-year-old mother last Saturday.

Fifty-two-year-old Dean Friese (freez) is charged with second-degree murder. Friese is accused of stabbing his mother, Lois Arlene Omeara, as many as eight times at the apartment complex where they lived in separate units.

The St. Cloud Times (http://on.sctimes.com/153wLwq ) reports Friese was in a wheelchair at his first court appearance Tuesday. He didn’t object when prosecutor Josh Kannegieter (kan-neh-GUY’-tur) requested the $3 million bail.

Kannegieter told the judge that Friese pulled the medical alarm at his apartment because he knew that would bring his mother, who was the manager on-call. Omeara was stabbed as she entered her son’s apartment.

Friese was arrested at the scene and was cooperative.
