Des Moines company seeks state funds to relocate

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A company providing warehouse and transportation services wants state help to move its corporate headquarters from Des Moines to a suburb on the city’s west edge.

Economic development documents show Jacobson Companies seeks a $250,000 loan from the state. The city of Clive is offering an additional $60,000.

The Iowa Economic Development Authority considers the request Friday.

Documents indicate the company wants to move later this year “to gain better access for employees and customers.”

Sen. Matt McCoy, a Des Moines Democrat, says he is generally opposed to the state helping a company move within the same county or a bordering county, but he understands business needs sometimes dictate relocation.

He says it’s important to keep the company in central Iowa.

The company says it also is considering Chicago locations.
